A little news from good 'ole Kansas.... : )

Who is sprucing up Haven’s Park?
By JOHN RICHMEIER, Times Staff Writer

A police officer examines an area at Haven's Park that mysteriously has been cleared and adorned with various items. Police believe items at the scene were taken during a series of local thefts.
Just in time for Halloween, Leavenworth police have uncovered a bizarre case at a city park.

Without the knowledge of city officials, someone or some people apparently cleared an area in the woods of Haven's Park, 22nd and Ottawa streets, creating paths and setting up benches and hammocks, police said.

Many of the items used to spruce up the area, including gnomes and chimineas, are believed to have been taken during recent thefts in the city.

Shrubs reportedly taken from an area nursery were planted at the site.

"It's the strangest thing I've seen," said Detective Sgt. Robert Mendoza, Leavenworth Police Department.

Mendoza said he doesn't believe juveniles are responsible because so much work went into the area.

"Nobody's seen anybody up in the area," he said.

Items found at the site are now in the possession of the Leavenworth Parks & Recreation Department. Victims of recent thefts of yard items can contact the police to look at what has been recovered.

What Mendoza referred to as someone's "safe haven" was discovered on Oct. 26 at the park. A police officer patrolling in the area saw hammocks while stretching his legs.

Mendoza said the site included a trail that led to an area with benches. Another trail led to an area with the hammocks and chimineas.

"It's set up like somebody's back yard," he said.

He said it appeared rock was mined from a large hole dug at the park. The rock was broken into smaller pieces and used to line the paths.

"The work that went into this stuff is amazing," he said.

According to a police report, the hole was about eight feet by eight feet and two-feet deep.

About 50 gnomes were found at the site. There also were four park benches, two hammocks, three lawn chairs, three chimineas, yard lights and other items, according to the report.

Mendoza said barbecue utensils can be seen in a photo taken of the scene.

"Evidently they were barbecuing up there too," he said.

Mendoza said there have been sporadic thefts of yard art items during the last two months.

Most of the thefts occurred in northwest Leavenworth. However, shrubs planted at the Haven's Park site are believed to have been taken from Jerry's Nursery and Landscaping, which is south of the city.

Other than the thefts, Mendoza said he's not sure what crimes may have been committed in the case. He said he's not sure there would be an issue of trespassing unless people were in the park after hours.

According to the police report, the location of what Mendoza called the safe haven was about 20 feet east of the park's driving trail and 50 to 75 feet north of Shawnee Street.

Mendoza said items found at the park don't have any type of identifying numbers so police are relying on the honesty of people trying to recover their stolen property.

Mendoza said he believed one of the chimineas had already been claimed.

This story just made me giggle...some poor soul is trying to make Haven's Park a more beautiful place ( or something like that!) and no-one appreciates it? Okay, so they stole a few garden gnomes...and some chimeneas...and some hammocks...park benches..yard lights..OKay I get the picture! It's still pretty funny...

You scored 92% SWEET, 66% CHUNKY, and 85% UNIQUE!
chocolate ice cream with chocolate cookies & swirls of chocolate pudding ice cream

You, my friend, ooze sweetness, just like this ice cream flavor. But there's much more to you than that...you tend to view things differently than other people and you like to engage yourself in creative, challenging activities. You're spunky, but not too wild, which is nice. Those who understand you tend to get along with you very well, appreciating all that you have to offer...and you offer a lot :)

So I carved my first pumpkin today...two actually, and it sucked...I can now see why my mom hated doing it every year. It took an hour and a half, and I was covered in pumpkin slime by the time it was all over. But I managed to do it for the kids, and we now have two carved pumpkins on the front porch.
I had a rough day today, mostly a day of kids throwing incredible fits over things like not taking them to Sesame Street...I'm serious. Jimmy threw a fit because I wouldn't take him to Sesame Street...I told him to mapquest it and I would consider it. The one non kid related thing involved a 50lb bag of kitty litter ripping and spilling all over the laundry room floor. I just wanted to cry. maybe I should go to bed now...

I've just discovered the most amazing cleaning product...yes I said cleaning product you can start breathing again! Molly has become a bit of a wall artist, so I needed to something to get the crayon off the wall. So I went and got a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser because everyone seems to rave about it, and I can see why. It's so spiffy, I've been running around cleaning all the marks off the walls. I think I'm going insane, maybe this week of being a complete full time stay at home mom is being absorbed a bit too much. I'm raving about cleaning products! Someone should shoot me before I get too nuts.

Very Well-Rounded

You have:
62% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and
70% EMOTIONAL INTUITION

The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored above average on emotional intuition and above average on scientific intuition. (Weirdly, your emotional and scientific intuitions are equally strong.)

Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences.

Geography Master
You scored 100% Accuracy!
All bow before the geography genius. Will you be our master? Will you lead us, all powerful geography master?

You definitely know your stuff. Colorado and Wyoming didn't get you confused, and you can find the North East states in your sleep. You were probably always wrecking the curve in school. Even if you cheated by using a map, this is still a decent score.

This state naming skill of yours will definitely get your far in life. There are myriads of times where it is important to know the shape of the states. Ok, I lied, it doesn't really matter. But it does show that you know your stuff. And knowing stuff is good.

Steven Soderbergh
Your film will be 54% romantic, 36% comedy, 44% complex plot, and a $ 36 million budget.
Filmography: Sex Lies and Videotape, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, Erin Brockovich, and various other homemade independent films. He may just want to follow you around for a few months and construct a film out of that. Your humor is either dry or non-existant, but your life is somewhat exciting romantically because you're "bad." At least you'll be surrounded by the best-looking people who will be cast as your friends, who in real life are probably just as good-looking. Then when he wins the Academy Award for your film, he won't have to make anymore "Ocean's" films.

No don't pass out or pinch yourself...here I am again within a week of my last post...wow...I am playing mommy this week. Tim is at a conference in Atlanta until tomorrow, I've been with the kids since Monday. It's been craziness, but not too bad. I'll be happy to hand them over Friday evening.

It was like 90 degrees today...that is so wrong! It's mid October...my goodness what's up with that? I'm supposed to be in my fall clothes by now, crunching through leaves, going to bonfires, and scraping frost off my windows. I'm just not feeling it here...I need to get home somehow...yeah that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Okay I'm exhausted, I should try to get some sleep...
