Today Jimmy discovered the world of paint. We went out and bought clear glass plates, and I helped him put his hand and fingerprints on them (with the paint, he had no problem putting fingerprints on them without!) and then I let him add his own personal touches. My toddler began his own dinnerware line within minutes it was amazing. So his parents will have two signed originals when they come home today. It was fun. We also discovered the fun of shaving cream, which was more amusing for me than him. I put some on this tray, and he just stared at it, when I put his hands in it he about had a nervous break down. I think it scared him. He thought I had turned his hands into marshmallows or something. So we'll have to try it again another time. Yes I am slowly becoming super nanny, just don't call me Mary Poppins!
I decided to go try a new restaurant yesterday. I visited the Sante Fe Depot Diner, and it was good eatin let me tell you! Great food, great prices, and the waitresses called you sweetie, hunny bunny, and other forms of sappy endearments. But the thing I noticed the most was how odd it felt to eat alone in a sit down type place. I've only done it one other time and I don't really count it because there were only two other people in the restaurant at the time, and it was in a hotel on my way out here. But I went in there yesterday, with my bookbag with my journal and Bible in it, and sat down at a table for two all alone. And I was fine with it. (yes I'm aware that I'm starting my sentences with and and but! ) People just stared at me as if my hair were plaid or something...it may have looked like that actually I need to dye it again! I ate my food, looked around a bit, wrote for awhile, enjoyed some time alone, and then left, but people were just staring the whole time. It was weird. I guess when I think about it, restaurants are generally places people go in at least pairs. The tables are normally set up for at least two people so it is a little weird to see someone sitting alone. But then I also thought about how it would be so out of our society's comfort zone to offer to sit with someone who was by themselves, or to invite them over to your table. Granted, nine times out of ten the person flying solo would decline the offer, maybe... We don't want to butt into people's lives, and that's probably okay, but I'm sure there are some people who are genuinely lonely out there who wouldn't mind if someone tried to butt in. I don't think I even would have objected to someone sitting down with me yesterday, it may have scared me a little at first knowing me. But it would have been nice to have someone to talk to. It's interesting that we are so into getting along with people, and giving peace a chance, and we would rather stare at person sitting alone in a restaurant than maybe reach out and try to get to know them. I think someday when I'm rich, famous, and have some time I will open up my own restaurant. I'll call it something cheesy like Table for two or more, or Two's company, three's even more...or something weird like that. People who come in alone would be seated with someone else who came alone, or with a pair or something. A restaurant that promotes getting to know people...hmmm.... It probably wouldn't last a week, but it's a fun thought. Someday...
Okay I've went on about that long enough, it was just one of my observations from yesterday, those happen from time to time. My brain does work in spurts! : ) Leavenworth is a good place to observe things. There are a lot of very interesting people here. I guess if you live in Kansas you have to do something to make it interesting.
Well Jimmy is napping, and it would be great if I could get a quick nap in as well before he wakes up more energetic than he was when he went down. If this ends up being the case, he will kill me before the day is out. So I will sign off here. I will try to be more frequent in my blogging. Try is the key word here!

So I woke up at 5:45 this morning, and got out of bed and walked down the hall to check if Jimmy was awake. He wasn't, so I wandered back to my room to get a little more sleep. As I went to step into my bedroom, I saw this little dark shadow dart back and forth across my path. I stared at the threshold for a second trying to convince myself that it was just my eyes, when I saw it happen again. I flipped on my light in time to see a little pink tail disappearing under my piano. I had been greeted by a mouse, a rodent that I didn't own and that wasn't welcome in my room. I have to admit though, since having Josiah (and what a labor it was...) I have grown less afraid of mice, but I still don't like them near me. I figured I had no chance of catching this little animal since he was much faster than me and wasn't about to let me come near him. So I told Sydney about the visitor, put my mighty sheep slippers on, and went back to bed. I haven't seen Issac since...yes his name is Issac. Remember Agatha the spider, Hubert and Claudette the crickets, and Gomer the Groundhog...so you don't remember Gomer, but he lives in the shrubs next to the house. Matthew the fox shows up every once in awhile, and last night we smelled Penelope the skunk, hopefully she won't be back for a visit anytime soon. Every animal has the right to a name, and I'm the one to give it I guess.
So that's my story, I was actually planning on a more exciting one, but I'm not energetic enough to do it right now. It's been a long, but good week, and I'm so happy that I get to sleep in tomorrow!

Here's how the cookie crumbles
Thu Oct 2, 9:45 AM ET Add Offbeat - AFP to My Yahoo!

LONDON (AFP) - Scientists in Britain have discovered why biscuits seem to break so easily.

Using sophisticated laser techniques, physicists at the University of Loughborough, in the north of England, found that a biscuit develops "fault lines" a few hours after it comes out of the oven.

As it cools down, it picks up moisture around the rim, causing it to expand -- while at the same time, moisture at the centre makes it contract.

The result is a build-up of strain forces which pulls the biscuit apart, making them vulnerable when handled, moved or packaged.

Doctoral student Qasim Saleem said the findings -- published Thursday by the scientific journal Measurement, Science and Technology -- could revolutionize the cookie industry.

"This will help biscuit manufacturers adjust the humidity or temperature of their factory production lines to change the cooling process in such a way that the biscuits won't break up due to normal handling, and hence producing the perfect biscuit," he said.

The Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Alliance, an industry group, puts the size of Britain's biscuit industry at 1.82 billion pounds (2.59 billion euros, 3.03 billion dollars) in turnover terms.

Wow! Science has come a long way...
